AUTUMN 2021

Sadly once again Covid -19 has prevented us from sending volunteers from the Uk to SHARE .
This has however not prevented huge progress being made at the site .

Work commenced on the school building removing tons of old bitumen, rubble , concrete slabs and rubbish from the existing roof , a mammoth task .
The walls were raised to an equal level and the corners strengthened before replacing the concrete roofing slabs . Following this the new  second storey block work was completed and the building has now been covered for the winter months in order to keep it dry .

A huge water pit has been dug in order to meet fire safety regulations .

Fruit trees and blueberry bushes have been planted in the orchard .

In compliance with planning regulations preparatory work has begun at our adjacent site across the road from the main complex .

Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard this year and to all of you who continue to support us .

Summer 2020

Although sadly we were not able to have UK volunteers on-site last year we were able to accommodate several families with some disabled children in the completed guest house. This happened on two separate occasions. The families were absolutely delighted with the standard of accommodation and equipment. They had a wonderful recuperative holiday with yoga classes, birthday meals and sing-along evenings. As a thank, you several of the husbands and some of their local friends volunteered to continue the work on the garage block. Please pop over to the Gallery page to see some photos.

Volunteer Fortnight

Autumn 2019

Our autumn volunteer weeks saw the team using the newly completed “guest house” , “luxury” was the cry from the volunteers as they enjoyed hot showers, running water , flush toilets and a warm bed !

The house now has a fully  equipped  kitchen and dining area , with fridge freezer , oven , and everything the ladies who cook for us could wish for.

There are five bedrooms offering accommodation for up to twenty people .

The volunteers completed the insulation and timber cladding to the front elevation of the garage block which now has a second storey and new roof . It will eventually have storage downstairs for aid and equipment , a banya and upstairs five bedrooms with a shower and toilet .All the pipe work is now in place .
A concrete pad has been poured to the rear of the building ready for the installation of summer showers.

The main school building roof was cleared of all debris and the chimney stacks demolished . A large  industrial tarpaulin has been secured in place to keep the building dry over the winter months .

Our next Volunteer Weeks

8th - 22nd September 2019

In September we have a team of six volunteers once more being led by Robert Whitemore going to the project.

Also traveling will be Joan Packard, who thanks to a private donor will be purchasing all the internal fittings and equipment necessary to complete this phase, eg, roller blinds, bedding , cutlery, bedside lockers right down to the basics such as loo brushes . She will buy as much as possible locally to support the Belarusian economy.

Work will also be starting on the renovation of the garage block to make it water tight and secure for storage .

We hope to be joined in this work by building apprentices from a local technical colleges.

Spring Volunteer Week

March 2019

Our Spring 2019 volunteer weeks saw a team of five going out to the project in March . They were delighted to escape the mosquitoes of last May , but found the weather very cold .

The team was led once again  by our Project building manager Robert Whitemore and he was joined by Ger Byrne from Ireland , Chris Broome , Alan David and David Allsopp.

We had made an appeal to the links to help fund the materials for this final push to complete the construction work of the guest house and we are pleased to say that so far we have been well supported .

Photographs of their progress can be seen on our Gallery page .

September/October Volunteer Weeks

October 2018

Despite unseasonably cold , wet and windy weather the volunteers achieved a great deal .

Internal all the floor tiling was virtually completed , partition walls built for the shower cubicles, and externally the building insulated and battened ready for its final cladding.

To complete the building in we need to install suspended ceilings and LED panels

Install the toilets , sinks and showers.

Manufacture and install internal doors

Install a kitchen sink, gas hob and basic units

Pour a concrete belt around the exterior of the building

Build a small porch over the main entrance.

Once this is done we will be ready to hand the building over to the building inspector for it to be signed off ready to equip.

If you have any of the skills to help with the above please do get in touch . We hope to shortly have the dates for volunteer weeks in Spring 2019

April 2018 Trip Update

Five volunteers in April achieved an enormous amount . The “Guest House” ( phase one) porch was demolished, the interior gutted, floors dug out and sand scree put down before pouring the new concrete floors throughout.

PROJECT Art Exhibition -01 (1).jpeg

Art Exhibition

We held a very successful art exhibition in St Ives last month selling fourteen paintings and raising over £700 for S.H.A.R.E.

Father Vitali had arranged for us to have the art work of Belarusian children aged 8-15 years which had been entered into a regional  competition in Belarus .

As the result of the wonderful reaction by the public to this exhibition we will be holding another one later this year.
